10 Days of Astronomy 2016 Timetable

With about a month left until this year’s days of astronomy the preparations are underway. We have finally created a final version of our timetable. Read more about it in the following article.

  • April 1 (Friday) 
6 pm – Opening ceremony in Hrvatski dom, 7 Matija Gubec Street, Daruvar. 
7 pm‘Have we managed to narrowly escape a predictable large-scale ice age?’ by Professor Vladimir Paar. 

  • April 2 (Saturday) 
7 pm‘The new hominin fossil species: Homo naledi’ by dr. sci. Davorka Radovčić, paleoanthropological (the diluvium of Krapina) and anthropological collection custodian at the Croatian Natural History Museum. 
11 pm – Petrov vrh Star Party. Moderators: Dunja Županić (Kumova slama AS) and Alan Jadanić (Zagreb Observatory demonstrator). 

  • April 3 (Sunday) 
7 pm‘Where do we come from and where are we going?’, prof. dr. sci. Ivica Puljak, professor of physics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. 

  • April 4 (Monday) 
12 pm – Observing the Sun through a telescope at Vladimir Nazor Elementary School (24 Ljudevit Gaj Street, Daruvar), moderator: Alan Jadanić, Zagreb Observatory demonstrator. 
5 pm‘To the Moon and beyond’, professors Josip Prević and Ivan Marko Dežić, Vladimir Nazor Elementary School (24 Ljudevit Gaj Street, Daruvar). 
7 pm‘From the Earth to the Moon’, Professor Ante Radonić, director of Zagreb Technical Museum’s planetarium at the Astronautics department. 

  • April 5 (Tuesday) 
5 pm – ISE workshop ‘The Exploration of the Sun’, Dunja Županić. Intended for students of Daruvar Technical and High School. Location: Daruvar Technical School, 14 Gundulić Street, Daruvar. 
7 pm‘Do you (I) feel lucky?’, Nebojša Subanović, manager and lead forecaster at Geo-Meteo, who graduated from the Department of Geophysics at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb with a degree in meteorology. 

  • April 6 (Wednesday) 
7 pm‘Transhuman agenda’, Professor Korado Korlević. 

  • April 7 (Thursday) 
8 am – A scientific gathering – Professor Korado Korlević with students from Daruvar Technical School. 
7 pm‘The science of superheroes’, Tijana Prodanović, Doctor of Science, associate professor at the Department of Physics with the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Novi Sad. 

  • April 8 (Friday) 
10 am‘Stars, Planets & Galaxies’ workshop (in English) for students of J. A. Komensky Czech Elementary School. Moderator: mag. educ. phil. et angl. Tanja Ježabek. Location: 5 Masaryk Street, Daruvar. 
7 pm‘The discovery of gravitational waves – a signature of cosmic monsters’, doc. dr. sci Davor Horvatić, senior lecturer at the Department of Physics (The Faculty of Science) in Zagreb. 

  • April 9 (Saturday) 
7 pm‘Towards the largest gamma-ray observatory in the world (The Cherenkov Telescope Array)’, prof. dr. sci. Dijana Dominis Prester, associate professor at the University of Rijeka. 
9 pm – Star Party in King Tomislav square, Daruvar. Observing the night sky through telescopes. Moderators: members of Kumova Slama Astronomical society. 

  • April 10 (Sunday) 
6 pm – A round table discussion with an introductory lecture entitled ‘Turn off the lights – switch on the stars’ about light pollution in Daruvar by mag. oec. Dunja Županić, a lecturer in Daruvar Technical School.
